Christian Henson is one of the most in-demand and prodigious film composers working in the UK today. He is responsible for scoring some of most notorious cult films, TV series and computer games of the last decade. He is a multi nominated (including Ivor Novello and World Soundtrack Awards), multi award winning composer.
Christian is currently riding high on a crop of triple A projects putting finishing touches to Jon Wrights blockbuster “Our Robot Overlords”, Sega’s “Alien Isolation” (featuring a posthumous collaboration with Jerry Goldsmith), whilst having just finished 5 feature length Poirot’s including the very last, and critically acclaimed “Curtain”, alongside the third season of multi award winning hit series “Fresh Meat” and a truly harrowing new 6 part series written by and starring Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith (of League Of Gentlemen fame) titled “Inside No. 9″ due for TX Q1 2014.
Henson’s notoriety stems from working on some of the more challenging productions Europe has produced over the last 10 years. From the heart rending holocaust epic “La Rafle” one of the biggest French films of recent times, Dexter Fletcher’s BAFTA nominated debut “Wild Bill”, Lee Tamahori’s disturbing “the Devil’s Double” to a tryptic of insidious horror and comedies from director Chris Smith with “Severance”, “Black Death” and “Triangle”.
Of over 45 feature films, Christian has also proved he is a versatile craftsman with more mainstream and colourful offerings like Storage 24, Chalet Girl, The Secret Of Moonacre, Chasing Liberty, and in his early years, the TV series Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps (which ran for 9 seasons and 74 episodes).
Christian always brings a unique angle to his work. Having started out in the film world as a drum programmer for A-list composers stemming from his work in the first wave of Drum and Bass and breakbeat music of the 90′s with acts such as LTJ Bukem and The Freestylers. Christian is a self taught orchestral writer who’s panache for warping sounds and encouraging orchestras to explore new ways to create beauty is coupled with a devotion to a good old melody. Christian brings his love of cinema and the scores of John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, and Lalo Schifrin together with the work of composers Adams, Reich, the beats of The Prodigy and Parliament Funkadelic into a happy union. He has collaborated with an eclectic number of artists for his scores including Graham Coxon (Blur), Dot Allison (One Dove, Death In Vegas, Massive Attack), Skye (of Morcheeba), Natasha Khan (of Bat For Lashes), Synergy Vocals (Steve Reich) and Ed Harcourt.
Unhappy with the sounds available to his craft, Christian has exploited his skills as a sound-smith to set up the company “Spitfire Audio” providing tools for composers the world over. This company has developed a cult global following and by giving away some of these tools for free in return for charitable donations, has become one of the biggest single donators to Unicef UK via the JustGiving site.
Christian works from his scoring complex in central London, England.
